    <summary type="html">I tried several of the recipes posted and while I'm relatively happy with one of them, it still just wasn't quite right.  So, I broke down and ordered some from Amazon.  Thanks for the tip on that Naomi!  I now have 3 MASSIVE jugs of okonomi sauce.&#xD;

&#xD;
* a traditional, yowza-this-will-take-all-day sort of recipe: authentic okonomi sauce recipe&#xD;
&#xD;
* "this is what we usually do" kind of shortcut recipe: modern shortcut okonomi sauce recipe &#xD;
&#xD;
Both are from a good Japanese friend of mine who happens to also be a chef here in the Bay Area.&#xD;
&#xD;

Yeah, there's no need to import Okonomi-yaki sauce from Japan.  Although if you really want to get the authentic stuff, you can order it through Amazon, actually.&#xD;

Ingredients:&#xD;
1/4 cup ketchup &#xD;
1 1/2 Tbsp. worcestershire sauce &#xD;
1/4 tsp. dijon mustard &#xD;
2 Tbsp. rice wine &#xD;
1 tsp. soy sauce &#xD;
Directions:&#xD;
Combine all ingredients in a small saucepan and heat until bubbly. Simmer about 30 seconds more, stirring constantly. Remove from heat. &#xD;

Cuisine: Japanese&#xD;
Courses: Sauces&#xD;
&#xD;
&#xD;
Recipe Ingredients&#xD;
Autoconvert units to:     Metric US&#xD;
&#xD;
2 tablespoons  30 ml Tomato puree &#xD;
2 tablespoons  30 ml Ketchup &#xD;
1/3 cup  78 ml Worcestershire sauce &#xD;
3 tablespoons  45 ml Dark soy sauce &#xD;
1 teaspoon    Sugar &#xD;
7 tablespoons  105 ml Dashi (bonito stock) &#xD;
2 tablespoons  30 ml Cornstarch - dissolved in &#xD;
2 tablespoons  30 ml Water &#xD;
&#xD;
Recipe Instructions&#xD;
Bring tomato puree, ketchup, Worcestershire sauce, soy sauce, sugar and dashi to boil in saucepan over high heat. Add cornstarch mixture, a little at a time, and cook until thickened to the texture of ketchup. Cool before serving.&#xD;
&#xD;
This recipe yields about 1 1/2 cups.&#xD;
&#xD;
Each tablespoon: 7 calories; 196 mg sodium; 0 cholesterol; 0 fat; 1 gram carbohydrates; 0 protein; 0.01 gram fiber.&#xD;

    <summary type="html">I ordered a case direct from Japan (can't find it anywhere near here) and it was seized by custom's!  I got the empty box with a printout of the ingredients and the "chicken flavoring" highlighted as the cause for it's seizure.  No refunds on seized products either.  *ugh*&#xD;
&#xD;
I've searched teh web and tried a few recipes, but none of them came out quite right.  The Japanese seem to keep their secret ingredients incredibly secret when it comes to pre-packaged sauces (Took me forever to break the Golden Curry recipe!).&#xD;
