I ordered a case direct from Japan (can't find it anywhere near here) and it was seized by custom's! I got the empty box with a printout of the ingredients and the "chicken flavoring" highlighted as the cause for it's seizure. No refunds on seized products either. *ugh*
I've searched teh web and tried a few recipes, but none of them came out quite right. The Japanese seem to keep their secret ingredients incredibly secret when it comes to pre-packaged sauces (Took me forever to break the Golden Curry recipe!).

Re: Homemade Okonomiyaki sauce recipes?
Tue, February 17, 2009 - 8:30 PMI have two recipes for Okonomi Sauce:
* a traditional, yowza-this-will-take-all-day sort of recipe: authentic okonomi sauce recipe
* "this is what we usually do" kind of shortcut recipe: modern shortcut okonomi sauce recipe
Both are from a good Japanese friend of mine who happens to also be a chef here in the Bay Area.
I posted them on my website:
okonomiyakirecipes.nthmost.com
Yeah, there's no need to import Okonomi-yaki sauce from Japan. Although if you really want to get the authentic stuff, you can order it through Amazon, actually.
And yes I have a whole website devoted to okonomiyaki. What can I say, it's a fun food. -

Re: Homemade Okonomiyaki sauce recipes?
Wed, February 25, 2009 - 3:17 PMI tried several of the recipes posted and while I'm relatively happy with one of them, it still just wasn't quite right. So, I broke down and ordered some from Amazon. Thanks for the tip on that Naomi! I now have 3 MASSIVE jugs of okonomi sauce.
