So what do you know that's smelly? :) I know some folks love it or just can't stand it.
Durian - Thailand
Natto beans - Japan
Stinky tofu - Chinese country but not sure which country it orginates from.

Fri, March 3, 2006 - 8:09 AMDried squid and fish sauce are very stinky. Once, when I was moving, I knocked over a bottle of fish sauce and my friend who was helping me move ran out of the room. I'm so used to it I had no idea! *L* Shrimp and anchovie paste is also pretty stinky, but it tastes so good as a soup base. -

Re: stinky foods..
Fri, March 3, 2006 - 3:58 PMAsafoetida. Primarily used in Indian cooking. It is HORRIBLE. I bought some in a plastic bag. Then I put another bag on it. I had to stick it on the back porch until I could find a well-sealing jar to put it in. It's the smell you get if you forget about an onion under the sink and it turns into a semi-liquid blob.
Thing is, it's a lot like fish sauce. Smells horrible on its own, but when you cook it, it adds a fantastic depth to the dish.
Just be prepared if you buy it. Don't ever underestimate the power of asafoetida.
Durian and Jackfruit are quite similar. I like durian, but find anything processed made with it to be positively horrifying. I had to throw out the durian gelato I bought - and that was even made with real durian, not flavouring. The line between pineapple-custard and rotting milk/onion flavour is a thin one in durian, I think. My husband can't stand having it in the house. =)

Wed, December 13, 2006 - 4:54 AMFermented bamboo shoot... very, very stinky. Used extensively in the hills of North-East India. There's one dish from Nagaland - pork with fermented bamboo shoots and loads of red chillies; definitely an aquired taste, but truly addictive once you have acquired a taste for it.

Limburger cheese is and old standby of stinky and tastes ever so good!
