I was gifted with a cellophane package full of dried seaweed threads. I'm more than willing to try it, but have no idea how it should be prepared. The package doesn't say what sort of seaweed it is, nor how to deal with it.
Do I soak it in cold water? Do I boil it? Do I simply strew it over rice or noodles?
All advice will be appreciated!

Re: Seaweed Question
Sun, March 26, 2006 - 2:25 PMDropping it in soup would do just fine, or steaming it with rice/vegetables if you just want to keep it simple. Just a few dry threads is enough to really make a bowl of miso soup complete. -

Re: Seaweed Question
Sat, April 8, 2006 - 4:41 AMHi egret, your seaweed, is it dry, squiggly looking black threads? that would be arame, one of my favorits. I just sprinkle a few in the rice water to add goodness to my rice.
Because it absorbs water so quickly, it can be added to anything hot and wet and will be ready to eat soon after.. yum yum -

Re: Seaweed Question
Wed, April 26, 2006 - 9:00 AMApparently sea vegatables are really healthy, so sometimes I sprinkle crushed ones on my salads. It took me a while to get used to the taste, and so, that way or in Miso is my favourite. Miso has a strange taste too if your not used to it, well, it did for me anyway, but now I love it. And you can put shrimp or crab, or egg, or spinach or whatever in it too. Super healthy, good tasting, and easy to make!
Good luck!
