I can still taste the avocado shakes I had a decade ago in the night market in Aceh. I've tried to recreate the flavor and texture, but nothing comes close. I've tried to copy recipes online, but they rarely work out.
Does anyone have a recipe for an avocado shake they can vouch for?
Perhaps the avocados are different in Sumatra. Here I can get Hess, which are great for guacamole, and some wild Hawaiian kind [we call it mountain avocado] that is large, but doesn't have a great flavor.

Mon, July 10, 2006 - 8:31 PMHmmm... not sure if the kind of avocado matters. The Vietnamese recipe is avocados, sweetened condensed milk, and ice. Good luck! -

Sat, July 22, 2006 - 10:27 AMI so don't know the answer but I do know that avocado with sweetened condensed milk and a squeeze of lime is pretty darn sexy for dessert... why bother with the blender and the ice? -

Sat, July 22, 2006 - 10:41 AMmmmmm...it does sound sexy, and I gotta say, seriously, I had no idea there were so many kinds of avacodos. The ones we get in the stores here are simply labled as avacodos, and thier green. LOL. The things you learn when you open your eyes!

Re: Sumatran Avacado Shake
Tue, July 25, 2006 - 8:49 PMSadly, no. I had a good one in small town Indiana, but I doubt the place is still there. I'd imagine a Mexican-style heladeria might be a good place to start. If you find a good recipe, let me know!
