Stuck with bad unagi - now what?

I bought just too much frozen unagi from an Asian grocery store (got carried away and also they were closing and I just grabbed the most expensive kind they had)...
I tried to use it on una-don but didn't like the taste at all, so now I'm stuck with a few packages... Any other applications where the unagi is not the super-star and where it would be acceptable to use my "bad" unagi?

Also, if anyone has a brand of packaged unagi they can recommend... Like I said, I bought the most expensive they had, but still wasn't good. After buying it, I noticed the unagi comes from China and had MSG!! I still don't want it to go to waste, though....

    I'm Chinese and won't buy food products from China any more. However that said, any stir-fry would be ok. Make some congee (thick rice soup) or you could feed it to the cat. ;-)

      besides all the MSG and the chance of toxins,
      Japanese TV showed unagi in China being raised in sewage.

      Among conscious eaters around here, unagi from China is well known to stay away from.

        for some reason, your post, has reinforced the idea that at times, ignorance is truly bliss. Now I doubt if I will ever be able to enjoy Unagi ina restaurant again ; P

          China is a big place, so it can't all be that bad... , no?, maybe?, i don't know. They probably give the American's the good stuff, right?

          It's a gamble hard to avoid for the unagi lover.
          I will eat it occasionally, if it is served to me, otherwise I pay for what I pay for and get Japanese unagi.

          Lately though, I wonder.

          Besides the obvious about the killing of dolphins...,
          Sometimes when people buy whale meat here, it is actually dolphin meat. Dolphins build up some of the highest levels of mercury and they are still being sold to the public, even in childrens school lunch's. Mercury content is 10 times above the health ministry's advisory level and even more than the infamous Minamata mercury poisoning in the 50's yet the media won't really cover it and they are planning more dolphin slaughterhouses with increases to the school lunch's.

      wise decision Pierced, if it doesn't taste right take it back immediately and demand the money back from the store. Usually you can get it if you make enough of a fuss, it might be too late now, but for future reference.


      actually there is a very high rate of us customs turning away some chinese ingredients exported here over food safety issues

      apparently if you criticize their government on the internet they can find you

      but if you poison people, steal intellectual property, pollute rivers people drink from, sell an antifreeze ingredient as glycerin as a cough syrup ingredient in the third world (killing dozens of children) the government somehow cannot find or punish the perpetrators, and then of course we have the painted toys.

      I know, it's a cooking tribe, but alas as another stated here even many chinese do not feel safe buying ingredients imported from china (though they will from Taiwan or Singapore as this food is so much safer) so political critique perhaps has a foothold here where thus far we've avoided political discussion.

      Still none of us want to poison ourselves, or our guests and loved onces.
