Is there such a thing? I was in a market in Oakland Chinatown the other day, filled with all kinds of different foods I know nothing about but would like to consume. Is there an illustrated guide somewhere that could assist me in my quest?

Re: Illustrated Asian Food Encyclopedia?
Mon, July 16, 2007 - 7:14 PMthere is "amaranth to zucchini" which is not specifically asian, but is pretty thorough and neat.
a lot of asian cookbooks will have info on this subject without being specifically dedicated to it.
and, yes, i have seen some books like you describe but for the life of me cannot remember the names of any.

This "quick and easy" cookbook series has great pictures and explanations of ingredients in each book. This is the link for the thai cookbook - I also own the Vietnamese and have been planning on buying the Japanese Homestyle and Korean books. It's a great series and very clear - great pictures. -
